THREE Polish men were last night charged in connection with Operation Leighton - the country's largest swoop on illegal immigrants which occurred in Southampton.
Artur Przerwa, 23, of York Close, Southampton, Bhratpal Khaira, 32, of St Mary Road, Southampton, and Jan Bulka, 39, of Hartington Road, Southampton, appear in Southampton Magistrates Court today charged with conspiracy to facilitate the illegal entry of people into the UK and conspiracy to obtain a pecuniary advantage by obtaining work for illegal immigrants.
Police have released 15 other people on bail pending further enquiries.
A total of 111 people were detained following Tuesday's dawn raid on 28 houses in the Newtown and Nicholstown areas.
One Lithuanian was taken directly to Gatwick and put on a flight and yesterday a further 74 immigrants flew out of Bournemouth airport. Thirteen immigrants are still being questioned on their status and five are subject to asylum appeals.
