FIVE people were taken to hospital after a car being driven by a police officer undergoing response training collided with a lorry near Winchester.
It happened at 2pm yesterday (February 12) on the Corhampton to Morestead Road near Owslebury.
A police spokesman said a green Ford Mondeo, containing four Metropolitan Police officers, was involved in a crash with a white Mercedes flatbed lorry, which resulted in both vehicles sustaining "massive" damage and leaving the road.
"The driver of the lorry, a 23-year-old man from Southampton, received a broken arm and serious cuts and bruises. He was taken to Southampton General Hospital by air ambulance," he said.
The four police officers were also all injured. Three men and a woman were in the car at the time.
The spokesman said the woman and two men were undergoing response training from a qualified instructor. The driver had to be cut free from the vehicle.
Three of the officers were taken to Southampton General Hospital in ambulances; injuries included whiplash, cuts and bruises.
The road was closed for five hours while police examined the scene and cleared debris.
Police are now appealing for witnesses to the smash. Contact Sgt Wayne Voller at Cosham Roads Policing unit on 0845 045 45 45.
